What do you look for in an Instructor?

 

What do most of us look for in an Instructor? Elite athletes from the last Summer Olympics were asked what characteristics they value the most in a coach/teacher. Surprising results!

 

1. Teaching ability
 

2. Ability to motivate or encourage
 

3. Training knowledge
 

4. Strategic knowledge of the event/sport
 

5. Skill competence
 

6. Personality

 

Those of you who have attended one of my courses know that I am always asking for feedback, positive or negative, to improve the program. So, I am very curious about what you look for in a firearms, tactics or shooting instructor. Is it their background, reputation, appearance or does it really matter?

 

I always tell students in "The Profession of Arms" to look at the "instructing background" and not solely the "instructors background".
